Changing Themes

One of the best things about WordPress is the amazing amount of free themes that you can quickly use on your site. Each theme maintains your content, although you may need to move some menu systems / widgets around to make the best use of the theme that you select. This is perhaps why it is best to choose a new theme before you start adding too many widgets to the standard theme. It is easiest to pick a theme that you really like, apply it to your blog and then add widgets and get things looking exactly the way you want.

Changing themes is very easy. First, expand the ‘Appearance’ tab and then click ‘Themes’:

Selecting Themes

You’ll then see your current theme and the only other theme currently available to you – WordPress Classic. To change your theme simply click ‘Activate’ underneath the classic theme:

Refresh your blog and you’ll see how your blog has changed. It really is that simple.

The Appearance tab also shows you what options each theme has. For example: whether you can add another column; whether you can change the header; whether any colours can be changed in preset ways and so on. This enables you to customise your favourite theme to suit your needs even better. Although some themes will be more customisable than others.
